Vegetation clearance around irrigation canals

Maintaining access and vegetation around irrigation infrastructure while protecting slopes, structures, water flow and service routes.

Vegetation along berms and service strips can impede inspection, access and subsequent maintenance. However, the exact scope is determined by the client and the person responsible for the facility — not by the machine and not only by what is visible in the frame.

First we define the task and responsibilities

The owner or operator, documented authority to commission the work, working boundaries, conservation areas and permitted access are specified. The cleaning of the service strips, the work on slopes and any work in the trough itself are divided. The video does not demonstrate bottom cleaning, sediment removal, or restored hydraulic capacity.

The review determines the safe method

  • stability and grade of slopes, wet or compromised sections;
  • width and carrying capacity of the service road;
  • shafts, intakes, pipes, cables, fences and other restrictions;
  • water level and regime, expected rainfall and emergency conditions;
  • a place for temporary separation, loading and transport of the material.

Controlled removal of vegetation

The approach is chosen by sections. Low vegetation, shrubs, trees and mixed litter are not treated as a single material stream. Before crushing, stones, metal, plastic and other incompatible objects are separated. Valuable or necessarily preserved vegetation is marked in advance.

Mulching in place can reduce bulk, but does not mean that all material must remain next to the channel. The final destination is determined according to the origin, the condition, the requirements of the client and the applicable regime.

Acceptance with a measurable result

Related services are cleaning of riverbeds and canals, forest mulching and selective cleaning.

Submit length, approximate widths, photos of access and slopes, facility status, water regime, known networks and desired end result.

  1. control photos and marked start and end point;
  2. described treated areas and left protection zones;
  3. report of separated and exported materials;
  4. a list of unforeseen obstacles and temporarily suspended areas;
  5. checking access and the visible condition of the facility.
